What the Hell is Going On at Arsenal?

*Updated 3/7/17

At the moment, things seem to be falling apart at the seams: Arsene Wenger's future is in constant attack by the media and fans, Alexis and Ozil's contract situations have got everyone wanting to kill themselves, and most importantly, we haven't been playing very well.

So, what has exactly been going on at the club? Well, I won't bore you with should Arsene Wenger stay or should he go, because at the moment, this is a conversation we've been having for a couple of years now. If he stays, he stays, if he goes, he goes. It's not up to us fans as to where he will end up next season, and frankly, I don't understand all the abuse, and I never will.

At the moment of posting this, all the buzz has been around one fellow named Alexis and where his future lies at the club. So, why aren't we discussing Ozil? Reports have just come out about some tension between Alexis and the manager and players.

According to the Guardian, Alexis stormed out of a training session last week, which did not go down too well with his teammates or manager. It is also speculated that this is one of the reasons why he was benched against our match at Anfield. I'm sure that Wenger also benched him for tactical reasons, but this situation seems likely. The Guardian is more reputable than, say, the Mirror, so with this situation and our loss against Liverpool, it looks like things aren't going to get any better for the club, or Alexis.

I personally don't defend his actions. I've seen some people saying that he has a "winner's mentality", but we all know how Wenger is, he values a player's character highly and if Alexis is going to throw fits and not cooperate with his teammates, then I lack sympathy towards him.

In yesterday's press conference (3/6/17), Wenger came out and basically called bullshit on the whole story. I would expect him to say something like that, and in reality, only those who are inside the club know what really happened.

What makes me sad is that I thought that with us winning two FA Cups back-to-back and with having our two world class players in Alexis and Ozil, that we would be seeing progress being made in terms of the league and in Europe.

So far this season, it feels very messy, everything is just out of sorts. Nothing has been going right and at the moment, I feel anxious about the club, a feeling that I usually do not let come over me. I didn't come into this season expecting much, but it's always nice when a club who should always be performing at a top level challenges for the league and the Champions League, neither of which are in the picture now.

All we can do now is hope that things sort themselves out and now we just have to finish in the top 4.
