What We Learned: Arsenal 2 Tottenham Hotspur 0

It's been a while from me, hasn't it? It was also a little while for the team who came back from international break to face our biggest rivals this past Saturday. Getting up early on a Saturday morning to watch a game you think you would lose isn't the most tempting idea, but luckily for us, we managed to beat Spurs rather comfortably, much to my surprise.

We started with what seems to be our first choice team with Koscienly, Mustafi, and Monreal starting at the back, Bellerin and Kolasinac as wing backs, a Xhaka/Ramsey midfield, and Lacazette playing up top with Ozil and Alexis behind him.

The only thing that gave me some kind of false hope is that we've currently got an amazing home record and maybe the Emirates could have saved us that day, which I'm sure it did, but I think most of it had to go down to our tactics and how we performed on the day.

The rowdy kick-off was inevitable as it's the North London Derby and you'd be an idiot to think otherwise that there wouldn't be flailing limbs and misplaced passes within the first couple of minutes, but then things started to turn in our favor. We were creating many chances and had multiple half chances, many of which were missed by Lacazette and on another day, he probably would've put us 1-0 up within those first ten minutes.

The atmosphere intensified even more due to our positive play going forward, which was probably not anticipated as Spurs have been the better team lately and we usually can't find our feet in these derbys. You could even say that Spurs' lack of dominance was more surprising than our positive start. The Spurs team who just beat Real Madrid in the Champions League looked a shadow of themselves last weekend as they kept losing the ball and failed to close us down on multiple occasions.

Spurs continued to play a high line, probably thinking that we would do the same and we would get caught out, but instead, we put on a strong defensive display and managed to go past Spurs' vulnerable back line. Their defense looked all over the place as we had chance after chance, corner after corner, as Spurs scrambled to get back into position. We had the most fun down the left hand side and we kept making the same types of crosses which were poorly manged by their defense.

Then came the biggest sigh of relief, when Ozil stepped up to take a free kick in the 36'. The funny thing is that I could feel a goal was going to come from this as we had been playing so well so far, it only made sense that something would go our way. Mustafi jumped out and scored a nice and clean header that put us 1-0 up. I feel that we've got some more fight in us this season, but if we had gone 1-0 down in the beginning, I could see it being hard for us to go on and win the game.

Regardless of the fact that Spurs had some half chances here and there, and what looked to be a deflected header from Harry Kane to put them up instead, we managed to keep things comfortable as Spurs looked even more uncomfortable after we went 1-0 up. Lacazette then exploited their left side again and squared a simple ball into Alexis, who squeezed it in to double our lead.

The second half we dropped off while Spurs piled the pressure on as they were desperate to get something out of the game. It looked as if it was our tactical switch to sit back and wait for them to slip up as they try and get a goal back, but we looked solid throughout the whole match and as the half went on, I couldn't see Spurs getting back into the game. Our substitutions even explained our motives as Coquelin came on for Lacazette and Iwobi came on for Ozil. Speaking of Ozil, this guy had a phenomenal game.

Ozil proved once again, even though he's been here for four years now, he's shown that he has got a fighting performance in him and today he showed us all the aspects of his game that he has developed since being here in England and even got to top it off with an obligatory assist. He was all over the pitch today and he tracked back when he needed to as well as trying to create goal scoring opportunities.

Our next couple of league games will be tricky with Burnley away and Manchester United at home. If we managed to get two wins from both those games, I can see us climbing the table and possibly putting some pressure on Manchester City who look incredible this season. What's to say that their fate won't change? What's also to say that we end up dropping points? At this point in the season, I can't really tell what we're playing at because we've been kind of hit and miss so far this season, but I'm going to try and be a bit more optimistic after this weekend's result.
