What We Learned: Arsenal 3 Bournemouth 0

This is the Arsenal we all know and love. This is the Arsenal that should be here week in, week out. This is the Arsenal that should be challenging for the title.

If you can't tell already, today was a pretty nice day to an Arsenal fan. Today's performance showed what we've been missing for the past month of Premier League football. There was a complete attacking performance and a complete defensive performance. Although we did play against Bournemouth, we could've self destructed again, but today it looked as if we had a point to prove.

The team we fielded today showed the luxuries that Arsene Wenger has. We played a back three of Mustafi/Koscienly/Monreal, all three of which have worked really well in this system before and it showed today as our defensive performance was very solid. Thankfully, today our wingbacks played in their rightful positions with Bellerin back on the right and Kolasinac on the left. We had a midfield pairing of Xhaka/Ramsey and up front we had Lacazette as our main striker with Welbeck and Ozil playing off of him. This team is already a great line-up with a lot of versatility in their play, but the fact that we still had Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, and Alexis Sanchez on the bench is incredible.

We dominated the match from the kick off and it didn't take long before Bournemouth had their backs against the wall. Kolasinac, who had a great game today, sprinted down that left hand side and put in a great cross which Welbeck got a head on to make it 1-0 within 6'. There was some great movement in the box from both Welbeck and Lacazette and I was more than happy for Welbeck to get on the scoring sheet because it's due for his confidence as a forward.

This wasn't Kolasinac's first time running down the flank as he was constantly bombarding Bouremouth's team from that left hand side and constantly put them under pressure while providing a nice outlet for our attacks. At the moment it looks like he's brilliant going forward, but we'll have to see how good he is at the back when we come up against sides that will give us more problems at the back.

I don't remember seeing one moment in that first half where Bournemouth were allowed any possession on the ball. We were constantly passing the ball around and creating many chances up front. Our play today was very fluid, which is something we have missed for quite some time and it was great to see the fact that we looked so comfortable on the ball today and were so good at holding on to it.

I have to give credit to our midfield today, which seemed more balanced today. Ramsey was allowed to go forward and make his runs, which helped out attack very much, but Xhaka today was much more disciplined and it looked like they both had a better understanding over where the other one would be. In the past couple of games we were prone to giving the ball away in midfield and/or leaving too much space in behind for the defenders to make up, but today we looked more alert to the positioning on the pitch, and if we ever did lose the ball, we made sure we won it back immediately.

As we kept opening Bournemouth up more and more, our club record signing made me almost injure myself as he took a shot outside of the box, capitalizing on Nathan Ake's mistake to make it 2-0. Lacazette showed just what a good finisher he is and once he took that shot I knew it was going in because he's done it for so long with Lyon. I've already mentioned this in a previous post, but not only is he a clinical striker, but he's so intelligent on the ball and makes very good runs. Hopefully he continues to get more game time as there is a lot of competition in the side.

At half time everything seemed to be looking up. There wasn't one thing I could pick out and say that we failed to do as we were solid both defensively and offensively. Coming into the second half, we didn't look any different. We still dominated the match in terms of possession and chances created.

Early on during the half we had a counter attack and Ramsey played in a great ball to Welbeck who slotted it in at the tightest of angles to make it 3-0. It looked to be game over at that point. Bournemouth did apply some pressure during a spell during the half, but towards the end they looked worn out as we tirelessly played till the clock ran out.

I'd also like to give a shout out to Mesut Ozil who has gotten a lot of greif over the past couple of weeks, which to be fair, it seems like Ozil is always the victim of blame when it comes to an Arsenal defeat. Today he showed how classy and intelligent he is on the ball and it's great to have him for yet another season. Hopefully there's more good things to come from him and all our other players.
